PhD Admission Information

Application Deadlines:

• Dec. 1 — Priority deadline for summer or fall admissions

(applicants applying by this date will have priority consideration for funding)

• Feb. 1 — Final deadline for summer or fall admissions

• Oct. 1 — Deadline for spring admissions

Admission Dates

Typically, students are admitted for enrollment in the fall semester. For questions regarding spring and summer admissions, contact Dr. Jessica Akers at Jessica_Akers@baylor.edu.

Admission Requirements

Students must be admitted to the Graduate School of Baylor University before being admitted to the PhD program. This program admits a very select number of students with strong academic credentials who are interested in working with faculty in research and development projects.

Admission to the doctoral program takes into consideration the following critical factors deemed important for success in graduate studies:

  1. A completed Graduate School application form.
  2. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  3. Transcripts from all higher education institutions attended.
  4. A written statement outlining the goals the applicant hopes to accomplish by completing the degree.
  5. Professional resume or curriculum vita.
  6. Three letters of recommendation.
  7. Graduate Record Examination (GRE) score report.
  8. International students are expected to secure a minimum of 79 (current iBT scale; 213 on previous CBT scale; 550 on previous PBT scale) on the Test of English as a Foreign language (TOEFL).

Upon review of all of the information, the Graduate faculty teaching in the PhD Program may require submission of a writing sample and/or a personal interview. This interview will be of sufficient length to allow the applicant as well as the faculty to make an informed decision.

In addition to the listed criteria, the committee may consider the applicant’s related work and academic experience, publications, presentations to professional organizations, leadership roles, teaching excellence, awards, career focus, and other professional activities that might provide evidence of potential success in a doctoral
