Applied Behavior Analysis

Applied Behavior Analysis is using the science of behavior to make meaningful impacts on people’s lives. The Baylor University ABA program emphasizes how to implement ABA-based interventions to teach people with disabilities new skills and reduce problem behavior. Students will be prepared to work with a wide range of individuals with disabilities such as autism, Down Syndrome, and intellectual disability. 

The ABA program in the School of Education 

  • Prepares students to implement evidence-based interventions to help improve the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, such as autism spectrum disorder. 

  • Combines traditional classroom learning with hands-on experiences with children at Baylor CARE and other community programs. 

  • Offers students paid work opportunities with local, partner ABA providers.  Students get hands-on ABA experience in the community with local programs with an established reputation for excellence. 

  • Students have the opportunity to get involved in applied research with faculty mentorship. 

  • Prepares graduates to take the Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) exam. 

Degree Options 

  • Master’s of Science in Educational Psychology with Concentration in ABA 

    • The MSEd in Educational Psychology with a Concentration in ABA is a residential program requiring 36 hours of graduate coursework and a passing score on written comprehensive exams at the end of the program. The program begins in June and students typically graduate in 15 months the following August. The MSEd is ideally suited for students who will work want to work as practitioners in the field of ABA. Graduates from this program typically work in clinics, schools, and community programs serving children with developmental disabilities.

  • Ph.D. in Educational Psychology with Specialization in ABA 

    • The PhD in Educational Psychology with a Concentration in ABA is a residential program requiring 65 hours of graduate coursework plus a dissertation. The program begins in June and students typically graduate in 4 years. The PhD is ideally suited for students who will work in higher education as ABA scholars and professors.
