MSEd in Educational Psychology - Gifted and Talented Education
he Master of Science in Education (MSEd) in Educational Psychology with a specialization in Gifted and Talented Education is designed for students who are interested in the scholarship and practice of gifted and talented education. Students completing this program will understand the frameworks, practices, and policies for initiating and sustaining gifted and talented education programs. Students will learn techniques of assessment and selection of students for gifted and talented education, differentiated curriculum and learning designs appropriate for high-ability students, and instructional strategies focusing on inquiry learning, complex thinking, and conceptual understanding.
The MSEd in Educational Psychology with a specialization in Gifted and Talented Education is a residential program requiring:
36 semester hours of graduate coursework
Successful completion of a written comprehensive examination.
Course work includes:
- 18 hours of coursework is from the Educational Psychology Core:
- EDP 5332 Human Growth and Development
- EDP 5333 Psychology of Learning, Cognition, and Affect
- EDP 5334 Statistical Methods or EDP 5340 Measurement and Evaluation
- EDP 5335 Research in Education
- EDP 5366 Psychology of the Exceptional Child
- EDP 5393 Cultural Issues with Children and Families
- 12 hours of coursework in gifted and talented education:
- EDP 4350 Introduction to the Gifted Child
- EDP 5310 Curriculum Development for the Gifted Child
- EDP 5311 Creativity and Strategies for Teaching the Gifted
- EDP 5351 Social/Emotional Needs of the Gifted
- Additional 6 hours of coursework in graduate-level elective courses approved by your advisor.
